As I walked into Zehnder’s Main Dining Room on Thanksgiving to see how things were going, the Andy Williams classic; “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” was playing over our sound system. I found myself humming the tune for about a half hour.
She's worked every day of the week and every weekend. She has worked every holiday without fail. Since 1936, she has stood in front of our building, rain or shine, and greeted each guest, young and old from each state of the union and from nations around the world. She uses the same five words every day. Our guests take pictures of her nearly every day. My wife and I included her in our wedding photos. My niece thought enough of her to include her in her high school senior pictures.
Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth, the 1,500 seat family restaurant located in Frankenmuth, Mich., was ranked number two in the country in the number of meals served among all US independent restaurants according to the hospitality trade, Restaurant Business magazine. The popular family restaurant served 967,298 guests with a guest check average of $14 in 2015. Last year Zehnder’s also ranked #1 in the number of guests served among independent Michigan restaurants; 2015 total sales registered at $14,802,943.
