The Fortress was once again excited to host the Suzann Pettersen Qualifier presented by Frankenmuth Insurance on June 3rd and 4th. In partnership with the Dow Championship, the 2-day, 36-hole tournament is the official amateur qualifier of the Dow Championship. The Dow Championship was held June 26-29 at the Midland Country Club. Kaleigh Babineaux, a recent high school graduate from Austin, Texas; won in a playoff. Kaleigh shot 78-71 in her 2 rounds to make it into a playoff and secured the win after the 1st playoff hole.
With her win, Kaleigh (who will be playing college golf at the University of Nebraska in the fall) received an exemption into the Dow Championship. Kaleigh teamed up with a college teammate and competed against the best of the best in the LPGA’s only team event on tour.
In a full circle moment, LPGA player Savannah Grewal sat down on the Monday evening prior to the qualifier to share her journey as a professional golfer. Savannah, who is sponsored by Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth, won the qualifier tournament back in 2022. She used that opportunity to compete in an LPGA event as an amateur while in college as a catalyst for her own professional aspirations. Savannah is in her 2nd year competing on the LPGA tour and she also played this past weekend in the Dow Championship.
