The Fortress Golf Course’s Kyle Martin, PGA Honored with Prestigious Bill Strausbaugh Award

The Michigan PGA has announced its 2026 Special Award winners, recognizing outstanding PGA Professionals across the state for their leadership, service, and dedication to the game of golf. Among this year’s honorees is Kyle Martin, PGA, Head Golf Professional at The Fortress Golf Course, who has been named the recipient of the prestigious Bill Strausbaugh Award.

Martin, an alum of the Professional Golf Management Program at Ferris State University, has built a reputation not only as a talented golf professional but also as a passionate mentor committed to developing the next generation of PGA Professionals.

Each year, Martin returns to Ferris State University to lead teaching and coaching seminars for students in the PGA Golf Management Program. Through these sessions, he shares his professional experience and encourages aspiring golf professionals to pursue careers in the PGA of America. His dedication extends to his own team as well—actively mentoring employees and encouraging them to work toward PGA membership.

Beyond his role at The Fortress Golf Course, Martin has also contributed significant time and leadership to the broader golf community. He currently serves on the Michigan PGA Education Committee and the Special Awards Committee, sits on the Ferris State PGA Golf Management Advisor Board, and has previously served on the Member Content Committee for the PGA of America.

Martin’s recognition with the Bill Strausbaugh Award highlights his outstanding integrity, character, and leadership, as well as his ongoing commitment to mentoring others and helping fellow PGA Professionals advance in their careers.

About the Bill Strausbaugh Award

Established in 1979, the Bill Strausbaugh Award honors a PGA Professional who has demonstrated exceptional dedication to mentoring fellow PGA members and improving their employment opportunities while also contributing meaningful service to their community.

The award is named after Bill Strausbaugh, a Middle Atlantic PGA Master Professional known for his dedication to helping others succeed in the golf industry. Strausbaugh passed away in 1999, but his legacy continues through this award, which celebrates PGA Professionals who embody the same spirit of mentorship, leadership, and service.
