It Tastes Like Pancakes and Bacon

I was walking through our bakery one morning when I noticed one of our bakers putting the final touches on a great looking product I didn’t recognize.

“What’s that?” I asked. “Well Al, that’s a new cupcake we’ve developed, it’s called Maple Bacon. It tastes like pancakes with bacon,” she assured me.

Well pancakes and bacon sounds marginally good for you. But bacon on a cupcake?! I had tried our chocolate covered bacon a few weeks prior (yeah, that’s right, chocolate covered strips of bacon) and found it to be curiously appealing. One bite turned to two then three then…gone! The salty, sweet combination was strangely irresistable. My mind quickly reverted back to the conversation I had with my doctor at my last physical and I couldn’t recall anything with the word bacon in it on the list of things I should be eating more of.

Now I like bacon. I tend to think anything with bacon on it or in it will taste good. You could probably wrap a cardboard box in bacon and it would taste good. But bacon on a cupcake? It just seems like temptation gone too far.

Well I thought about that Maple bacon cupcake (just one flavor in our line of gourmet cupcakes) for over a week. I actually walked past it a couple of times, looking at it just sitting on the shelf tempting me. Then tempation just plain got the best of me. I walked in to the bakery (it’s just too easy) and sampled it for myself. Not bad. Actually better than not bad, really very good. Not that I need more bacon in my diet but as a unique specialty, just once in a great while type of thing, I liked it.

If bacon on baked goods isn’t appealing to you, try one of the nearly 30 varieties of bread our bakers turn out every day. Or our line of European pastries, cheesecakes and chocolates. Celebrating something? Everyday we have special occasion cakes ready to be personalized just for you. Don’t see something you want? Custom baking is one of our specialties. And if you need a gluten free diet, sample some of our complete and ever-changing gluten free products.

On your next visit to Zehnder’s, please visit the Bakery at Zehnder’s in our lower level and see the wonderful product line. I’m tempted by it everyday.

Hospitably Yours,
