Zehnder’s Restaurant, located in the Bavarian town of Frankenmuth, opened its doors for business on Mother’s Day, 1929, when Zehnder’s chefs served up a total of 312 chicken dinners. Since then, hundreds of thousands of guests have enjoyed the Mother’s Day tradition at Zehnder’s, and Zehnder’s has come to know Mother’s Day as one of the busiest days of the year serving nearly 5,000 guests. In celebration of Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, Zehnder’s sponsored its 22nd annual Mother of the Year contest.
Zehnder’s 2013 Mother of the Year was awarded to Mary Ann Van Haaren of Frankenmuth, Michigan! Ashley Lynn submitted the winning poem on why her mom should be Mother of the Year. Mary Ann won a Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth Mother’s Day dinner for up to 10 family members, an overnight package for four at Zehnder’s Splash Village Hotel and Waterpark, a recognition plaque and a bouquet of flowers. Congratulations Mary Ann!
Ashley Lynn’s poem for her mother:
I hear her whisper, “I love you my dear”
She pats my back, her words so clear,
“I love you too” with a grin upon my face;
One more hug, into her arms of grace.
Once again, a love like no other;
I couldn’t ask for a better mother.
