As the countdown to summer continues for all of the children in school, the countdown to The Fortress Junior Camp begins. Last year was a huge success with over 90 participants and this year we anticipate well over 100 junior golfers. P.G.A. Head Professional Kyle Martin will be directing the program for the second season, integrating all parts of the game from fitness, nutrition, practice routines, chipping, putting, full swing, and course management.
Once again, our staff will include collegiate golf instructors representing Michigan State University, Ferris State University, Western Michigan University and Mott Community College. These college players will help provide invaluable knowledge to your kids as they grow as players and individuals. Golf etiquette will be a big priority throughout the camp as golf is one of the only sports where you are required to referee yourself and your playing competitors. The camp will begin on July 7th and will be each Tuesday to conclude August 11th. The age groups are split up as follows: 6-12 year olds (8:00-10:00, Junior Golf Program) and 13-18 year olds (10:30-12:30, Train-to-Play Golf Program).
The Train-to-Play Program (13-18 year olds) is a new format this year. Participants will go through a high-speed video analysis that will be emailed to the parents, as well as distance testing on our new FLIGHTSCOPE launch monitor. Participants will also go out on the course to work on course management and scoring development. The Train-to-Play camp focuses on one of the most important stages of athletic preparation because this is when sport-specific skill development really begins.
We look forward to working with your kids, helping them to develop skills in a sport that will last a lifetime. To register, contact the golf shop (989) 652-0460. Further information is available online at www.zehnders.com.
