Zehnder’s to Make a Bigger Splash on October 31st!

Zehnder’s Splash Village Hotel & Waterpark Completes $20 million Atrium Waterpark Expansion with Michigan’s First Retractable Roof

Frankenmuth, MI – October 21, 2014 – Following more than a year of construction Zehnder’s Splash Village Hotel & Waterpark will open its new atrium waterpark to the public on October 31. Splash Village is the only waterpark in Michigan to offer two distinct family waterparks. Families can enjoy over 50,000 square feet of aquatic adventures highlighted by Michigan’s only waterpark with a retractable roof.

“We are very excited about giving our guests double the fun at Splash Village,” said Zehnder’s Chairman and CEO Al Zehnder.  “Nine years ago we opened Splash Village with a 20,000 square foot waterpark.  The atrium waterpark is our new 29,000 square foot expansion that includes a retractable roof; an outdoor pool; two, six-story thrill rides; family cabanas and more.”  Guests will be able to enjoy both waterpark areas; the 20,000 square foot original waterpark and the new atrium waterpark, connected by a short walk through Splash Village.

The Atrium Waterpark also features a 20-person hot tub, a six-story family raft ride; a six story super loop body slide; zero-entry activity pool with water geysers, water basketball and volleyball, action river and various fun family aquatic activities.  The 12 foot x 12 foot private poolside cabanas are designed to accommodate up to ten guests each with a mini refrigerator, safe, house phone, towels, flat screen TV, and personalized food and beverage service. Guests can also choose to dine in the new 75-seat Mushroom Grille.

The original waterpark area that opened in 2005, is highlighted by a lazy river, whirlpool hot tub, 400-gallon dumping bucket, water geysers and sprays, a four-story tube slide, and the Elf Hollow Café.

“We also expanded our hotel accommodations with an additional 32 guestrooms, 22 of which offer panoramic views of the waterpark, “said Zehnder.  Splash Village offers a total of 178 guestrooms including 74 deluxe suites. The expansion project also doubled the number of waterpark locker rooms and expanded the indoor arcade to offer 45 fun games. Special grand opening hotel guestroom rates with waterpark passes are available through the end of December 2014. Waterpark-only day passes are available by making advance reservations.

“Our overall goal is to offer a four-season family vacation destination – from our waterparks to our 1,500-seat Zehnder’s Restaurant, Z-Bakery and Gift Shop and the 18-hole Fortress golf course,” said Zehnder.  “We host several events year round along with annual Frankenmuth events that attract thousands of visitors.  We are very proud that Frankenmuth is considered one of Michigan’s top travel destinations with its Bavarian theme and deep-rooted German heritage; we are happy to be able to contribute to its continued success.”

Zehnder’s Splash Village Hotel & Waterpark expansion project was made possible with financing from FirstMerit Bank and included the participation of Chemical Bank, Michigan Economic Development Commission (MEDC); Michigan Certified Development Corporation; Small Business Administration;  MEDC Community Development Block Grant; Frankenmuth Downtown Development Authority; Saginaw Future and the City of Frankenmuth. The design team for the project include: Neuman Pools, Water Technology, Inc., Open Aire, WTA Architect, Homespun Design and The Weber Group.
