There are certain tastes that mark the season in Frankenmuth—and for generations of Zehnder’s guests, Blue Hubbard Squash is autumn on a plate. This year, we’re proud to celebrate 60 years of serving Blue Hubbard Squash sourced from our longtime local partners at Weiss Farms. The tradition continues beginning Friday, September 13, 2025 (timed to this year’s harvest), and we can’t wait to share it with you.

Our Blue Hubbard Squash comes from family farms just down the road—Weiss Farms (about 4 miles southeast of Zehnder’s), as well as Ortner Farms in Reese and Munch Farms in Bay City. Keeping our sourcing close means peak freshness, fewer miles traveled, and a taste that’s unmistakably mid-Michigan.
In Zehnder’s kitchens, we keep things beautifully simple—butter and brown sugar, nothing else. That’s the secret to the naturally sweet, velvety character that’s won over guests for six decades.
A community tradition—by hand
Every fall, we invite the Frankenmuth Varsity Football team to help unload the freshly harvested squash right here at Zehnder’s. Why? Because every Blue Hubbard is handled by hand to prevent breakage and bruising. It’s a tradition that brings our community together—and it’s one more reason each serving tastes like it was made with care (because it was).
